Agility’s New State-of-the-Art Digital Radiography System Advances Patient Care

Agility Orthopedics State-of-the-Art Radiography system
The radiology team and providers at Agility Orthopedics are now using a state-of-the-art digital radiography system which further enhances the practice’s imaging capabilities while providing patients with a more comfortable experience and the ability to schedule exams rather quickly.

Agility Orthopedics recently installed a state-of-the-art digital radiography system, Konica Minolta Healthcare’s KDR® Advanced U-Arm. Digital radiography is a form of X-ray that uses digital plates to directly capture data during a patient exam and immediately send it to a computer. It eliminates film, similar to digital photography, resulting in higher quality images that can improve diagnosis and lower the patient’s exposure to radiation dose compared to film-based or analog systems.

The fully automated KDR Advanced U-Arm swivels into preprogrammed positions depending on the body part being examined and moves around the patient to capture images, leading to less patient re-positioning and making the exam more comfortable, especially for those with limited mobility. Unlike other imaging systems, patients in a wheelchair can be imaged easily.

“There are many benefits in terms of patient experience and applying the results to diagnosis,” explained Evan J. Zahner, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon and Managing Partner at Agility Orthopedics. “Because the radiography system is digital and automated, exam times are shorter and there is less time required between studies. As a result, patient exams can be scheduled rather quickly so we can work with them to define the most appropriate treatment plan that will help them accomplish their goals and get back to their quality of life.”

In addition, the advanced acquisition and image processing software work in unison to acquire the best possible images, reducing the need for patient call backs. “The system is capable of full-body scans, scanning the entire spine and even imaging the entire length of a limb from hip to foot, for example. Patients can stand during the exam while we quickly and efficiently obtain high-quality images. All of this further enhances the patient experience and the quality of care we provide, both of which are of utmost importance to the team here at Agility,” said Evan J. Zahner, MD.

AXI, a certified Konica Minolta reseller, worked closely with Agility Orthopedics to select and install the KDR Advanced U-Arm. For Mary Sylvia, seeing the new modern digital radiography equipment reinforced her decision to select Agility Orthopedics to evaluate her shoulder pain. Sylvia scheduled her appointment at Agility because of their excellent reputation for orthopedic care in the north suburban Boston area. “The technologist was very excited about the new system and commented that it was significantly more advanced than what they had before. That meant a lot for me as a patient that the orthopedic practice I chose invested in this technology and they were so enthused about it. Overall, they did a great job and it was a very good experience for me as a patient.”
